Please help out a newbie embarking on his maiden speaker build: vifa recession buster kit.
http://www.madisound.com/catalog/pro...oducts_id=8525 I am thinking to flush the tweeter to the baffle and position the midwoofer closer such that it over laps the tweeter. Does it matter how the tweeter and midwoofer is spaced between each other? |

Using a second order crossover as you have in this case you are to space the drivers (Centerline of voice-coil) at one wavelength of the cross-over frequency.
13,503.94-divided by Frequency = space (Inches). EG. 2750 Hz = 4.91....Inches. This in conjunction with the 2nd order makes for a symmetrical lobing effect __________________________________________________ _____-Rick........ |

Thank you for the quick response. Will stick to madisound's recommended plan then.
Is there a link on this subject for me to read up? |

Not a link but this is from Dr. Joseph D'Appolitos' 1983 paper "A geometric Approach to Eliminating Lobing errors in Multiway loudspeakers"
The selection of the woofer in this version is right on target for a ported design...The Effeciency Bandwidth Product is right at "100'...most ideal for a ported design. Some of my tips for construction that has worked well for me (Having built dozens of designs)...I use One inch thick Medium density MDF for enclosures (Regardless of size)...Wood glue of course, Two inch woodscrews spaced four inches.....a simple butted corner..with this thick you don't need fancy corners. Be carefull to square everything up....Triple check interior volume calculations. Nothing better than a heavy stout enclosure. The interior damping materials is debatable among ported designs....I have always made sealed designs...So??? This "kit" is priced VERY good! Have fun!! __________________________________________________ ____________Rick...... |
