When sound is reflected from the baffle, a small time delay occurs, when the sound passes the baffle and reflect from f.ex the wall, a bigger time delay occurs. By using a big baffle, the time delay is "minimized", but its still there, and a lot of people dont like the sound of wide baffle designs.
My idea is to make boxes or even pipes that just big enough for each driver (as small baffle as possible), and then make a wide baffle, out of foam! This way any reflection causing time delay is minimized. Could this work? Has this been tried before? |

Yup, check Vandersteen speakers.
He also time-align the boxes.

Hey, thats som really interesting reading on the vandersteen home page. Thank you! I'm gonna try experimenting with these techniques!
But i'm going to try adding a foam baffle, maybe with a layer of "Acustilux" damping material on top. The goal is to minimize the rear wall's affection on the sound from the speaker. Think this could work? |

it's not an OB, all drivers will have its own enclosure, made out of the same kind of pipes people use for sonosubs, only smaller. The purpose of the dampening will be to minimize diffraction\reflections.
