Heyas
I recently was given a pair of AR14 speakers by an awesome guy here in Perth. He was just giving them away, but they had a few issues. One cabinet was missing original speaker, and the other, the tweater was not working. Well since 4 weeks ago, I managed to purchase an original 10" acoustic research driver which has been freshly re-foamed. I bought it from Larry in America, Vintage AR and I can recommend him for anything AR related as he has helped me out greatly. I have since put that in and been listening to one speaker, to see how it sounds. The other speaker which was original, had literally no surround left on it, and the tweeter was not working, so I sent that off to John Mace at Short Fuse located in Malaga, here in Perth Western Australia. shortfuse. If you're in Perth, then this guys is a wealth of knowledge and very friendly. So by the end of all this, Ill have an original pair of AR's to call my own. Now, what to do with them! Im waiting to buy an amplifier of Harvey Norman, possibly a home theatre amp, as that is what they offer in store (planning on using my 500 dollar gift voucher there), so looking at a Yamaha or Marantz amp. (plus some more dollars) My first impression of the AR with original bits in it, didnt really sound that great to be honest. Maybe it was my amp that i use, maybe it was the crappy sound card that I had in my computer, but it had a bit of distortion coming out of the tweeter. Sounded like it was overloading the bottom range of the tweeter output. I pushed some Infected Mushroom through them, which had some high powered synth sections and loads of bass beat. Probably werent engineered for the future :-) Anyhow that is my story, and ill post back once i get the other driver and tweeter in the cabinet aswell as some decent photos of them :-) Cheers |
