Hi,
Is anyone interested in working in PCB design for generic/all-in one OB? The goal is: Signal in ---> "Generic OB XO" ==> Speakers (W, M, T) The generic XO will contain the xo, notches, etc. and also the power amps themselves. This will eliminate the need for expensive separate amps as well as simplifying everything, no wiring, hum, etc. What would be the pitfalls of this approach? And do you think the final solution will be a better value compared to alternatives such as DCX2496 ?

Gosh, Andi
what an almightily ambitious project! congratulations for conceptualizing it and best wishes for success. I'll buy an affordable one, if its configurable. |

Well I wasn't thinking about appliance like Rane or DCX but simply a PCB board. Let's say a $30 board which can be populated as required.
Perhaps even at the end we can have a database of experiences, eminence alpha uses this xo and this notch, seas uses that, etc... Circuitry and pcb drawing should be a non-issue. Rather the manufacture of PCB, that's why we need to know if there's a "market" for this work. I was hoping that this is something that can be done using single-sided PCB so the cad drawing can be made freely and people can use "toner transfer" method. But looking at the pinouts it seems a double-sided PCB is required.

it's already been done
and it costs as you suggested $30 http://www.linkwitzlab.com/pcb.htm#WM1 and power amps are not that expensive. behringer and audiosource are excellent amps. |
