Those are ok but I would have put the tweeter just under the mid horn and put them on a 30 cm platform.

from what I know such mid horn is crossed relatively high, above 500hz
which means the woofers play quite a lot of midrange
thus 2 woofers side by side is bound to be trouble

The inner LF river on the D66000 plays to 700 and the outer is crossed at 150Hz in a .5 arrangement from my reading of the documentation.

anyway my point was that if jbl uses this configuration for hi-fi they have o good reason to do that. Large ugly speakers + horn + HFhorn on top. It's more similar to a proaudio setup with a cherry on top rather than a hi-fi one.
Now putting the jokes aside, has anyone here tried to build something similar to the everests?

Just look around this forum. Many of us have. The usual band of suspects that you see in this thread.

Yeah, half a century of speaker and driver design and manufacture and some very talented engineering staff.

Large, yes, ugly is only opinion and if you think that these won't perform more than adequately for their cost, then that is just your ignorance showing.

Sure, I have built several. My current builds contain mostly pro audio drivers seconded for use at home including JBL LF drivers and waveguides.

Me.... I just love JBL and Altec Pro stuff.. Mine are rather large Onkens, not Everests admittedly. Not living room friendly..

I have been going through the process of improving a pair of JBL HLS810's. At first, I decided to pick up a pair of Pyle Pro pds442 compression drivers and compatible horns. Then, left with the horrible fact that the stock 8" woofers were woefully inefficient and lifeless, I decided to take a risk.

A couple days ago, I ordered in some Celestion TF 0818's. I've heard good things about Celestion, however there are few reviews of the 0818's. Their sensitivity (94 db), response curve, and the fact that they are designed for a 2-way system with a small cabinet seems to make them well-suited for my speakers. I'm using a subwoofer that's crossed at around 100hz, so I'm hoping that this system will interface well.

LF Pressed Chassis / Ferrite - TF0818 - Celestion - Guitar, Bass & Pro Audio Speakers

I'm just hoping that a 2000hz crossover won't kill the magic! I'm intrigued as to how they will sound, so I will keep you guys posted! For $38 with free shipping, I couldn't find a better deal.
