How can you tell if a loudspeaker is over damped? What does an over damped speaker sound like in general terms?

I have some three way floor standers (re jigged pair, modified from the original design) with the crossover points at 400hz and 2Khz and to be honest, they sound a little hollow around the edges, and slightly distorted in the higher frequencies.

Could they possibly be over damped?

thanks,

Chris.

I have enclosed the crossover diagram, although the 150uF cap across the bass drivers has been changed to a 100uF (to give more power to the bass which was a little low), and the resistor across the treble driver (HF1) is a 47 ohm and not 50. Also the HF2 element of the crossover has been removed. (Although it is difficult to see, the cap across the mid band is 6.8uF.)
