Default new woofer crossover?

Hi

I just "found" this woofer crossover - I have never seen it before, used like this

It works like a charm
At least with my speakers

Tighter more articulated and rythmik bass, quite a lot actually

Highly audible improvement on midrange as well, more articulated and defined, especially on voices
Tweeter sounds softer

Ofcourse its system dependent and must match the rest of the crossover chain

Might be worth a try

as you've used it, the R is bypassing the small L somewhat, so it'll bring your mids forward, giving the results you got;

'more rythmik bass' though? - I need a filter like this on my fingers, to improve my guitar playing

Im not sure its that simple
Without the resistor, the two inductors would simply be in series, and act as one
The resistor virtually seperates them, as would a paralel component

The improved mids comes solely from better phase relations, and gives better "timing"
Remember this curcuit is used on double 8" woofers solely, in a 3way

The much better rythmik and bass articulation is related to improved phase only
I can promise you that bass qulity changes considerably with even small crossover changes, as does distortion
Phase issues can do pretty strange things, such as slow down a driver, or make it seem too fast, and out of timing
Good phase relations results in fast timing simultaniously with exstremely relaxed and precise presentation

Though I really hate using bypass resistor on mids series coil, as mostly done, I may have to try whether this simplified double inductor arrangement works on midrange driver too

Have a play with this:

one of the effects of the parallel resistor is indeed reducing the phase angle...
