Default tweeter swap out??

when moving house recently we wall mounted the tv, and at one point required the help of my dearest.....needless to say she dropped one of my speakers. she managed to catch it before it hit the fireplace but pushed her thumb into the tweeter. a bit of sticky tape later and the tweeter was ok again apart from some visible creases in it. performance is still pretty good but it looks ugly as sin.

ive been looking around and think i have found a tweeter that would fit the hole perfectly.

the speakers are monitor audio radius r90. the hole i have to play with has a countersunk hole for a tweeter and face plate of 55 mm.

the tweeter i have spotted is http://www.bmm-electronics.com/Produ...roduct_ID=7123

seems to fit very well and hopefully at the same time an upgrade.

my question then is : would this tweeter be an easy swap out ie, just a padding resistor on either the woofer or tweet depending on sensitivities??

You should replace both or put the grill back on so you don't see the creases. Matching tweeters can be tough, there are a number of issues to deal with including taltering the XO. XO's are usually made for the specific drivers.

for an 'easy swap out' you need to match the impedance of the new tweeter with the old at the crossover frequency, the frequency response of the new with the old, as well as sensistivity - otherwise you need to recalculate crossover values...

ok, so would it be easier to create a new crossover or modify the current?

i'm not averted to either idea, just thought that all i would have to do is add a series resistor so that the resistance reduces the amplitude to the same level as the woofer?

if i build a new crossover would it be beneficial to keep the crossover frequency @ 2500hz or put more pressure on the better quality tweet and reduce it to 2000 or even 1750hz

You have to match not only the output of the woofer, you have to match the impedance the amplifier sees or your XO point will change. The best thing to do is find a tweeter with a similar impedance plot and at least as high sensitivity so you can introduce an L-pad which is a combination of series and parallel resistors.

EDIT: If you find a tweeter that is sensitive enough and has a lower impedance you can add series resistance to get it back to the right level before you add the padding or incorporate that figure into your padding.
