Default Dipole - VPL-concept

Hi

Can somebody please explain the dipole VPL-concept? (Variabel path length).

Does the concept implement asymetric "sidebars"/wings (wings of different shape and size on the two sides) or can sidebars on both sides be identical but be shaped as a triangle, i.e. giving different path length all according to hight on baffel?

Default two pictures illustrating VPL

Here's two pictures capturing the idea:

In this case, a picture is worth a thousand words.

Hope this helps,

Hi,

My understanding is a rectangular baffle is enough "variable" acoustically?

The least variable being a round baffle.

Audiodidakt,

AFAIK "Variable Path Length" (VPL) has been brought into discussion by diyAudio Member "Overkill Audio" solely. Why don´t you ask him in the first place for a deeper explanation?

Rudolf

BTW: I would not "buy" such a concept without seeing measurements before/after.
