Default Vifa TL design WMTMW

Hi All,

I have been looking and looking and looking. I'm trying to find a Transmission Line design using Vifa drivers in ideally a WMTMW set up or just a MMTMM set up. I have never built speakers using an original design; the thought is a little scary. Thus my search for a design including the XO. If anyone can shed some light on my searching efforts and point me in the right direction that is hopefully to audiophile utopia I would be eternally grateful.

Conversely if such a design does not exist than perhaps a large TL tower using Vifa in a MTM configuration.

Thank you.

Perhaps a 3-way in a slightly different configuration may be on some-ones books;

WWMTM

With the woofers in a TL, nothing wrong with hybrid designs, look up TDL, I was once going to clone these using Vifa mid-range and tweeters but gave up the project due to other demands, I had even gone so far as to have 4 M-11s rewired to 16R,

To do a TL in this config, you will probably have to think of it as a W TL, a mid TL on top of that, and then a mirror image W TL on top of that.

Sounds complicated.

Maybe I am just better off purchasing a kit?The mistake I guess I am making is trying to build a supreme speaker first off. I am woodwork teacher and cabinet construction is no problem and I am just looking for a good TL plan that presents an imposing admirable salute to loudspeakers.

I'm just giving you crazy ideas (not Vifa - for inspiration because it's not my thing for now).

Moondog55, I don't know what's up with the ELACS, they always looked fabulous.

One day I'll build them.
Never saw much difference between Elac and KEF myself

why not try something simple.

Madisound has a RB2 kit with nice Vifa drivers and the same dirt cheap price as the RB1 kit. Includes built XOs.

There is a thread about TLs with the RB1 somewhere on this forum that has the specs for the TL cabinet.

...whoops. Just noticed where you live.

Still, its so cheap it might still be worth it.

A very wise suggestion for a 1st time build. Do something modest. You won't really know what a real statement piece is for you until you've got a couple builds under your belt.

My experience has led me to a place where personally i would not consider a WMTMW a statement piece except in the sense that it would satisfy the male, "mine is bigger than yours" criteria.

To me an MTM needs a very low XO (<400 Hz) which means VIFA is out for the "tweeter" and a separate pair of push-push woofers makes a lot more sonic sense than putting one above & below the MTM.

Dave, didn't I see a post from you recently that said you had found a tweeter you could cross that low? What was it?

FF85KeN -- in Tysen i currently XO at 333 Hz to a single SDX7, in an attempt to get sufficient bass sensitivity i am now working on an MTM with 2x SilverFlute W14. The Alpair 5 & 6 will work also, but i've not had as much chance to play with them yet (i have both).
