Default 'Shard' styling concept: Dazzle camouflage on un-boxy box speaker

Dear Fellow DIY-ers:

This is an old idea of mine (original was made from a folded AutoCAD drawing) that I put into SolidWorks recently to see how un-boxy and dissimilar from each other a pair of box speakers could look. I wanted to avoid having two similar looking boxes sitting front and center (the Twin Tower Effect - I coined a term?). This way, while they are perfectly symmetrical, they look completely different from each other from every position in the room. They also appear to shape-shift as you move around them (seen best in 3D CAD). I think they have a combination of untidy randomness and natural crystalline regularity in their appearance that one wouldn't tire of looking at.

The panels are divided into triangles of different shades of gray to trick the eye. Number of sides is seven, so 'only' one additional over a rectangular box. One noteworthy result of the arrangement is that the three drivers are aligned vertically, despite appearances. I also liked that even if you pushed them up against the side walls, they still had space around them. You also can't leave CDs, keys, and flower pots on top.

This version is a bit extreme in the many acute angles it has, but later I will show a more practical to build version that has more right angles.

I imagine the panels would be difficult if not impossible to cut by hand, even so I really like the concept, I could live with those even if I lack the skill to build them.

This version has more right angles than the first and should be much simpler to construct.

These are shown with a Seas L26 woofer, as opposed to a generic 12 inch in the original.

I had thought of making the non-right angled edges as pieces made from aluminum so that square-cut pieces of MDF or plywood could be inserted and bolted on and then sealed from the back. Maybe one day I'll come back to that idea.

one more shot

Because of the way these were modeled, I couldn't quickly make a mirror image of the left-hand speaker to show them as a pair...
