Smile my first DIY speakers project

hello everyone!
after reading and browsing amazing threads in this forum i
decided to post my own thread about my first DIY speakers.

now i am a noob at this so design wise im sure there alot of flaws
but hey you gotta start from somewhere

i wanted a big speaker!!
one that shakes the room.
being around recording studios the presence of JBL monitors has always made me happy. i liked the warmth of the sound.
listening to mixes on old jbls always put a smile on my face.

so browsing around the different models i got my inspiration from JBL L150.
of course it didn't took me a while to understand that there is no way im gonna get the same sound from different drivers.
sooo....
i decide just to get the inspiration from the jbl 150 enclousre.
so i did.

so the drivers i am using are:

SB Acoustics SB34NRX75-6 12" Woofer
Morel MW143 5"
Morel MDT 32
Peerless 12" XLS Passive Radiator

my god the SB acoustic woofer is heavy!!!

as for now im waiting for the peerless passive to come from the land of OZ.
it was hard as hell to get a pair of these passives!
they are discontinued and the only place i could find some left
are in Australia! (Aussie Aussie Aussie thank you
)

Thebrain,

congratulations on your diy project. One question. In-spite of your inspiration from JBL L150 which has tweeter and midrange clearly offset from center, you put them right in the middle. Any particular reason? This, in my opinion, will create unnecessary dips in the response.

What particular model of JBL monitors are you talking about? Most of the monitors are designed for accuracy and not warmth.

thanks ed.
as for your question i wasn't even thinking about unnecessary dips in the response
i am total noob at this but this is the way you learn stuff.
plz explain why it will create dips in the response?

those are the ones that really sounded warm.

its well known phenomenon because of diffraction
there is lot of info about is, nice link to explain it is here
http://www.rjbaudio.com/Audiofiles/t...ffraction.html

one can avoid it by rounding the front baffle, by carefull tweeter placement, by using absorbing material around the tweeter and so on

in your case I would suggest absorbing ring around the tweeter
I am sure you have seen it on many speakers...

your progress looks very good, soon you will be enjoying you new diy speakers, exciting

i wish i knew you before i designed the box

when putting absorbing material on the tweeter. do you put it behind the tweeter or just around it?
