Ok, so I have been using these speakers for a while now. Greg the Geek at GZ helped me out designing the boxes initially, and he came up with a 38L sealed box, which I then constructed from wonky offcuts of 19mm MDF. Ugly, ugly boxes.
Now, I am currently running a Boozehound Labs-style 6CZ5 SET amp, for about 1.5W per channel, and the speakers are plenty loud for my small room, and worked very well for the large party in a large, open warehouse. My complaint is that they are very directional above about 3.5Khz. I would like to add another driver to the box to help out. (basically, I'd like to make this a two-way sealed box.)
Now, this is not to say that I don't have mids and highs in the current configuration, I do, and they sound very good. It is simply the directionality issues, as the mids and bass fill the room nicely, but unless you are in about a 10 degree cone, the highs just are not there.

I'm really leaning toward that Alesis 1" from Parts Express. It fits the budget best, and it has good reviews from others.
Given that I am currently building a PP triode amplifier with some serous sleeper tubes, I figure it is about time to work on the speakers again. I'll be using a pair of Hammond 1615 output transformers, and should be sporting about 15W of output per channel. I don't know if this makes a difference, but I included it just in case.
