Short Thor build

I've decided to build a set of Short Thors. Would someone confirm that these are the correct schematics? I believe the cabinet plans are correct, but am less sure of the xover plans.

At the time i drew that it was the correct "alternative" XO. You should find the link back to the other forum for XO tweaks to suit your room, or for any more recent changes.

Thanks Dave. Yeah, I saw the tweaks but wanted to be sure this was the starting point. I'm new to building xovers so will likely go with the standard in this drawing to start.

Hey mattmcl,

I designed the crossover shown about 2 years ago. Since that schematic was made, I've done another design which uses shallower LR4 slopes instead of the steeper 6th order slopes of the crossover shown. I prefer the sound of the crossover with the LR4 slopes. Fellow member tktran has also built the newer LR4 crossovers for his Thors.

I don't have time now, but I will post all the relevant information within a day or two.

Awesome. I always was curious to build a set of new cabinets for my Thor TL speakers, as they are too big to fit in my living room properly, and the original design isn't an optimal TL.

Wow, thanks, that's great info. Would you have a parts list for the schematic? I'm new to building xovers and want to be sure I get the right brand and item.

I used Erse 14awg inductors, Jantzen inductors for higher gauges. All from Parts Express. You could get the same thing from Madisound (Solen perfect lay 14 AWG, Madisound inductors for higher gauge).

Use whatever Caps you wish. For the 5.7 uF value, I paralleled a 4.7uF with a 1.0 uF. I used basic Solen poly caps. I also used Eagle resistors from Madisound.

Thanks! One more question-

On the schematic, there is a 4.235ohm resistor marked 8||9- I couldn't find a 4.235- did you run an 8 and 9 together?

That means the 8 Ohm in parallel with the 9 Ohm, which produces a value of 4.235 Ohms.

So if I understand correctly, instead of an 8 and a 9 in parallel, I could use an 8 and two 4.5 (in series) in parallel, right? So basically swap out the 9 for two 4.5.

So with stuffing, the plan calls for .5 lbs. of stuffing per cubic foot to just past the halfway mark.

Does that mean line the top, sides and back, or just the back?
