Default Best sub in for a Thiel CS 3.6 D26AG-36 tweeter?

I had one of these get fried a while back. I sent it in and had it rebuilt since I was told they no longer stocked it.

It came back, but didn't sound much like the one in my other speaker. Recently it began sizzling, and it got worse over the past 3 weeks. With some music, it was not audible at high volumes, and with other stuff that seems to hit the right frequencies at the right time, it's audible at 80 dB.

The rebuild would probably cost more/be near impossible now that the cap itself has completely fell out of the tweeter.

I don't want to send it in for $150+ to get one that won't sound remotely like the one in my right speaker. I read 2 other posts on avsforum where people posted similar experiences, of female voices cracking sometimes with the new tweeter.

Does anyone here have a tweeter, or a source for it?

If not, can anyone suggest a drop in replacement? I really love these speakers, but the tweeter is slightly edgy compared to every other studio reference monitor & hi-fi speaker I use. I know that this has a lot to do with the source recording, but some stuff that is fine everywhere else is really edgy here, especially since I modified a new BB PCM1716 based DAC's slow & filtery sounding output stage. Something as detailed as the original with slightly less edge would be great.

I'm not on a budget, but not into spending $350/driver either. It's a 1" metal dome tweeter.

Default Same situation here

I just bought a pair of CS3.6's after owning a pair of 2.2's for many years. One of the tweeters is buzzing on the 3.6's and I was wondering what you ended up doing to solve this problem.

I am also an owner of CS3.6. Before doing anything, make sure those caps are intact on crossover. Some resistors will get hot and damage the adjacent capacitor. They were simply putting them too close.

So what have any of you guys done? I have a bad one and a good one. The bad one I took apart and the fluid was nasty. So I cleaned it as good as I ever could, added new fluid and put together and nothing. Doesnt play and it won’t register on the meter. I have examined it really close and I don’t see any thing wrong with the coil on tweeter...... driving me nuts. Madisound has a soft dome kit for these tweets but they say it’s best to cut the legs out of tweeter plate......I’m worried about hurting speakers value and collectibility. Thoughts?

I would wait on a proper, exact replacement, put a tickler on eBay and buy it when it comes up. And get a backup. Thiel driver prices are ridiculous. You could alternatively contact Vifa and perhaps they can recommend a substitution, but these speakers are good enough to bite the bullet and do it right. I have the CS3.5 and a number of replacement drivers I have picked up over the years just in case.
