6'' to 7'' woofer recomendation?

Good bass to about 40 Hz
Cross at about 2K or above

I think the L18 is better crossed at 1.7 or less.

I've used a bunch of these over the years. Great midrange and decent bass. Goes high enough for your spec.

Correct, however the P18 does not have the distortion issues due to the lack of a hard cone. I usually shy away from poly cones just because the plastic cone look doesn't appeal to me, however there are a few exceptions and the P18 is one of them. I'd love to see this driver used in a project, I haven't seen it used yet and it looks like such a good driver.

Sreten is right, there are a lot of choices for that broad description of what you are looking for. Peerless Exclusive 830883, Seas P18, ER18, CA18, Hi-Vi D6.8. Since you plan to crossover a little bit high, I would shy away from metal cone drivers, as the cone resonance is likely to be a problem without crossing over at a lower frequency.

I built Zaph's L18 all aluminum and it sounds sweet. John did a nice job to let the L18 be the star of the show. Madisound has a design for the P18 / 27TDC, which I also built but I was not as happy with it. I think it was crossed at about 2.2k.

Quick and dirty (check accuracy in Unibox) modelling indicates
it will go low in a fairly large (for a 6.5") floorstander vented.
(proper modelling indicates lower real world box volumes.)

I'd still choose active crossover for L18.
7k passive notch filter is impedance dependent, which changes with excursion and voice coil temperature.
