What is your opinion? I'm looking for a woofer with these features for a 2-way.
Price under $100.00 USD 8 Ohm Good bass to about 40 Hz Cross at about 2K or above 86dB or above Good power handling

40hz to 2k? I'd choose aluminum woofer such as
http://www.madisound.com/catalog/pro...roducts_id=818 with active 48db/octave + 7k notch crossover. |

I've used a bunch of these over the years. Great midrange and decent bass. Goes high enough for your spec.
http://www.parts-express.com/pe/show...number=297-305 If you want to modify your spec try the following crossed over around 800 hz http://www.parts-express.com/pe/show...number=264-712 plus this http://www.creativesound.ca/details.php?model=SDX7 The lower combination will knock your socks off. Mark

Hi,
There are plently of choices of 6.5" for a 2-way. Most of the sensible options are considered here : http://www.geocities.com/woove99/Spkrbldg/ |

Sreten is right, there are a lot of choices for that broad description of what you are looking for. Peerless Exclusive 830883, Seas P18, ER18, CA18, Hi-Vi D6.8. Since you plan to crossover a little bit high, I would shy away from metal cone drivers, as the cone resonance is likely to be a problem without crossing over at a lower frequency.

I built Zaph's L18 all aluminum and it sounds sweet. John did a nice job to let the L18 be the star of the show. Madisound has a design for the P18 / 27TDC, which I also built but I was not as happy with it. I think it was crossed at about 2.2k.

Hi,
FWIW : "A New Project: Poor Man's High-End Monitor" : http://www.geocities.com/woove99/Spkrbldg/jays_blog.htm Contains IMO two highly cost effective and measured drivers. (see Zaphaudio.com measurements.) http://www.madisound.com/catalog/pro...oducts_id=8302 http://www.madisound.com/catalog/pro...oducts_id=8352 I'm sure Jay_WJ will send you the crossover details on request. Quick and dirty (check accuracy in Unibox) modelling indicates it will go low in a fairly large (for a 6.5") floorstander vented. (proper modelling indicates lower real world box volumes.) |
