More compromises. I like metal cones, for increased efficiency and reduced distortion.

There is no best material or all woofers would be made from it.

Is that the new name for unobtanium?

EDIT: I just looked it up. I had no idea dreamonium was real. Careful you don't scratch it.

I hope before we get too sidetracked that Luis realizes there is no best material but perhaps he can tell us what he is doing and we can assist with a product choice.

Again, each has pluses and minuses that you have to try and control in your design. All materials have some advantage in some situations.

Aluminum, more or less, tend to work well in their working range, but have nasty break-ups outside the working range.

Paper cones, if well designed, can have less of a break up on the high end.

Kevlar are more durable, and a fair compromise, though can be prone to high end break ups too.

I think what you need to do is evaluate specific speakers. It is best to only look at speakers for which you can get a sample frequency response and impedance chart. Though it may not perfectly represent the specific speaker you have, it is a good working guideline for understanding the speaker and how it will fit in your design.

More than anything, budget is likely to narrow down your working choice of speakers.

Just a few thoughts.
