Has anyone listened to and directly compared Zaph's ZBM4 and ZMV5? Descriptively, how do their sounds match up?
I've narrowed the field to these for my upcoming 5.1 build. I've looked at the graphs and run the simulations and so far it looks like a wash. Am leaning toward the ZMV5; it will produce a more pleasantly-proportioned cabinet (building the mains as towers with integrated subs, and WAF is important). A latent nugget of soundqualitology could tip the scale, though! Thanks in advance for your opinions. Cam |

I have built Zaph's HiVi 5, which was replaced with ZMV5; and ZBAM4. You must really decide between 4 and 5 woofers. The 4 must be crossed to a sub higher, in this case Unibox shows 150hz. Zaph seems to suggest 100 but I can only compare what I see in Unibox. 5" can cross lower, say 100hz.
Older AV recievers I have seen have a fixed crossover at 90hz. So I got a new one that has variable xo so I can use either. The size of your room will be a big factor. Zaph says both sound great, so room size is it. |
