Default Modify XO toroid

Hi

Im fooling around with my speaker xo

I figured I needed to try and change an inductor

Originally its a toroid, 4mH

I took 2meter thick enamelled coil wire, and made yet another layer upon the original

Vupti, and suddenly I had a 7mH inductor

The new winding shows 0.45mH
But coupled in series I get 7mH
But only connected the right way, and if coupled wrong it only gives 1.5mH

Havent tried it yet, but now there are obviously several ways to use this
Either in series or seperately, maybe as part of a 3.order
Or I could make a layer with little less windings and get maybe like 6mH

Tinitus,
as a series or tapped inductor it would be good, but as part of a 3rd order, wouldn't it act like a transformer, somewhat bypassing the middle C element?

Being lazy, I managed an adjustible inductor, starting with 9mH wound around an iron core, by using a hammer I could adjust from ~1mH - 9mH depending on how much iron was inside the coil... too crude, I know

I have thought about whether there is some unfortunate "coupling" from having both windings on same core

Your "adjustable" inductor sound like fun

Toroids are i the xo now, and it seems to work, somehow
Its better, but not perfect yet
As it is now I think I will rebuild them completely, with thicker wire, and consider to use them fore 2.order only
Experiment goes on

Quick update

This "double-inductor" really seem to work

I have had a hard time with phase issues, and couldnt find where it was
With a 2.order xo bass was all over the place, and the same with 1.order, even though the rest sounded really nice, there was phase issues
Bass was really awfull no matter what I did
And believe me, I have tried every possible driver polarity

This toroid core with double windings, forming a 3.order filter(electrical)
bass is like magic and transformed from awfully pounding into really nice, tight and detailed bass

Seems phase is not to be taken lightly
An old danish saying comes to mind...heard it from an old lady
"Even a blind hen finds seeds"

Still ongoing experiments

My Xover, fore what its worth
