Hi!
Can anyone tell me the best way to cut MFD to make this little Sonus Faber Cremona babies? Or should I use solid wood? (These pictures are the Amati) Thanks Pedro Martins |

Have a look at Rob's project for ideas, but there are many more on the forum, just do a search on curved and boxes/enclosures.

Ola Pedro Martins:
Ca estamos nos a encontrarmo-nos.. Pudera, temos os mesmos interesses! Mas vou escrever em Ingles, por causa dos outros. Yours is a very ambicious goal, no question about it. But when I think about the shine glowing in my eyes when I saw the ARIELS I can understand your desire in bulding this clone. Well, let me tell you, I didn't mention the ARIELS only because I loved them at first sight, but because it caused me a lot of grief due the complexity of their structures. Being big as they are, if I didn't have a table saw I'd never be able to cut the several pieces, so many pieces!... The point that I would like to make is, to cut MDF a table saw is imperative... A circular saw is feaseble, but difficult, with a hand saw, FORGET IT. Solid wood as an alternative, I really don't know. It would had to be a very specific wood, solid oak for example which is very expensive and according to several tests already done, not quite suitable as far as acoustic properties go. Other alternative woods, may be birch plywood, again expensive... My dear friend, here my two cents (centimos) of speach. Good luck PS- Estava a contar telefonar-lhe esta proximo fim de semana.

Navin was building something with curved sides a few months back.
Here are a couple of threads about it: bending wood Help! How does make "dead" cabinet? These are two different threads. The differentiating numbers are in the parts where the "..." covers. You might find these helpful.

Thanks! kelticwizard, I've read the threads and got useful informations. Nappylady, 'No me gusta' is spanish! "Não gosto" is portuguese! pinkmouse, thanks for the words Mateus: «« Olá! Este fim de semana não dá! 25 de Abril... no outro pode ser a qualquer hora. »» Sorry folks! It's in portuguese! Well Mateus, as for the ARIEL, I really like the final aspect of them. We were talking about it when the phone call went down... I've thinked of making the Ariels, but I prefer the look of the Sonus Faber. Do you agree? About the sound, only after compare... I've also know where to find Scan-Speak drivers here in Portugal! A lot of Euros, BTW Later at night, I'll come back here to let you know some ideas that I've in mind to make the Cremona's Clone. I'm Till later Pedro Martins |

In Portugal, the Cremona costs 7.400€
The Scan-Speak drivers give a total of about 700€. So, if I can get my goal, that is making the clones, I'll spend about a total of 1.000€. So, speaking about economics, I'll save 6.400€ Now, about makng the speakers: I'll made a inner box in MDF and a outer finnishment in solid wood! That's it! Suggestions? regards Pedro Martins |
