I searched but could not find it: has anyone posted a comparison of the Neo3pdr with the standard backcup vs with a larger chamber? objective and subjective.. I would like to try the larger backchamber but want to be sure that it's worth the effort

What you will gain is a bit of efficiency by isolating the rear wave comming off of the driver. I usually use the neo 8 and provide it with a volume that I stuff with dacron fiber. We are not dealing with a diaphram assembly that really needs to be balanced with a given enclosed mass of air in order to function correctly as in a woofer box. It is mostly rear wave isolation that you are trying to accomplish. That being said you can to a modest degree change the lower end of the tweeters response with the stuffing and the size of the enclosure. But in my experiments with the neo 8 which is a larger diaphram than the neo 3 the volume is quite modest. I use around 350 ml .

Hi All:
mwmkravchenko; You have used the Neo8s? Would you mind commenting on the sound/performance? Do you use them as a line source or one-two (MTM)? I have an idea to use some in a design as monopoles in a short (32") line source for listening in a small room. Did you get them at Parts Express or have you found a Canadian source? All of the more local sources I have found are home theatre system consultants. Sorry for all of the questions and I don't mean to hijack the thread. Thanks Matt P.S. Probably a very nice day in Perth today. Spring is coming. |

mmmm... nothing desisive... but backwave isolation is potentially worth trying.. I'll try some inverse horn shaped or triangular shaped backchamber filled with angel hair stuffing (this is made from kevlar type fibres, rather expensive but for such a small volume not a problem)

Hi Matt!
If you want info on sources feel free to send me a private e-mail. I've been using these drivers for about 6 years. As for performance they are a tough act to beat when used within their proper limits. A poor man's esl would be a good way to put it. They do need a notch filter to some extent on the high end. But they are clean and clear as well as efficient. I have some right in front of me as a matter of fact. They are going into a large multi-driver two way. Mark
