Here's the system so far:
Squeezebox 3 (Bolder digital output / PS modifications) --> M-Audio CO3 --> BSS FDS 366 Loudspeaker Management System ---> ART SLA-2 Amplifier (2X) --> DIY Sealed 2 Way (Tweeter: Raal 140-15D; Mid-Woofer; ScanSpeak 6.5" 18W8531G) I'm very happy wth how the system sounds, but volume control is an issue. I'm hoping someone using a Behringer DCX2496 can help me out here. Ideally I want to run the Squeezebox at full volume to avoid bit loss. However, this sends a very loud signal to the digital crossover. I don't want to use the gain controls on the digital crossover either for the same reasons stated above. My first question is, do I run any risk of damage to the crossover by sending it the full volume signal? The unit seems to suggest that it is clipping at this level (although the amps would disagree). I can defeat the limiters, but I just want to make sure that I won't mess up the crossover by doing this. As of right now, I'm using the Smart Gain feature on the Squeezebox to make automatic volume adjustments on my songs. This is not ideal, but it is too difficult to fine tune with the volume controls on the amps. This leads me to my second question. Assuming it's not an issue to send the full volume signal to the crossover, I've been thinking about either of these two units for volume control: http://www.tdl-tech.com/data465.htm http://www.abluesky.com/asp/catalogu...code=60010MKII Does anyone have any thoughts on these or other mult-channel volume controls(balanced i/o)? |
