Default Advice when looking to pay for finishing work

I am having cabinets built for me but the builder can not do what I want for paint/color. I love what ShinOBIWAN did with his LGT speakers so I would like to go that route.

I want to have a black and pearl finish with flakes in it. I plan on calling shops that do custom paint work on motorcycles tomorrow. Am I going the wrong route by doing this?

Does anyone have advice on what questions to ask? How much a 3-way cabinet (3 separate cabs per side) should cost?

The only advice I can offer is a suggestion that after the cabinets are constructed that you put drivers in and try them out before you pay for finishing which could be expensive. If they are a flop you will have saved yourself paying someone to polish a turd. Make sure of course to remove your delicate drivers, etc. before letting the paint shop have them.

Glad to help. Do you have a link to show what ShinOBIWAN did that you are trying to duplicate? Good luck with these BTW.

I am using ShinOBIWAN's finishing capabilities as an ultimate goal to obtain.

I would like to produce something different than his LGTs.

Oh. When you mentioned six cabinets I figured it was for a surround sound HT setup.

Yeah, if it were me I would too. Those aren't my style.

It is not cheap at all. If you looking to do a car paint with high gloss and flakes, you will probably get the price around 5k in a pro paint shop if they want to bother. A professional furniture finishing shop will be a bit cheaper but if you get the price any lower then 2.5 k, be suspicious. If you want to drive you cabinets to NY I could probably do it in a reasonable time but so are other shops in NH. If it's not flake paint, it's cheaper.

yowzers.. 2.5k?

I had a custom flake paint (black with blue flecks) on my yamaha fzr and it only set me back 400. I did the sanding between coats myself.

I guess it depends on the shop and if someone is just doing it for fun. Ask Shin how many hours it took him to spray, sand and polish + paint and multiply it by at list $55. A custom paint job on your Yamaha for $400 is a possibility. I am assuming that it was done by someone you know because a professional paint shop would not let you sand between coats for a multitude of reasons.
