Hi!
I havent yet built a kit, but im in a planingphase. From a kit i want several things: - Fast and reasonably dry bass. Must be very accurate. - Bass reaching atleast down in the 20-30hz region. - Total membrane area of the drivers should be 10" or more per speaker. - Price: £1000 or excluding woodmaterial - Must be easy to follow the manual when building it. - Generally they must provide very good quality sound. - Sensitivity at 90-91db or higher This is the kits i have been looking at: 1. http://www.troelsgravesen.dk/JA8008_DTQWT.htm This is a danish contruction which to me looks quite promising. Troels Gravesen has got a good name in Norway and i belive it when he says its his best project. If you look at the construction, it is a little bit different from the normal speakers. Dont know if thats good or bad. 2. http://www.iplacoustics.co.uk/S5%20Kevlar%20Ribbon.htm This is UK based, and a transmissionline construction. I got TL-speakers myself and i am weak for type. Basically the IPL speakers are almost half the price of the first kit. Both are based outside Norway and i would need to import parts at a quite high cost. This also means i havent heard any of them, so i might end up with speakers that wont fit 100%, but ill be changing poweramp and maybe Pre-amp also. Im planing on using a valveamp from 35watts and up on the speakers. Do you got any comments on any of these kits? Does something strike you as potentially good or bad? Personal experiences etc.. Any other kits that fits my criteria are welcome Thanks! Espen |
