Smile in-wall drivers

Hi,

I'm a newbie looking for some recommendations on 5-1/4" to 6" drivers for an in-wall front speaker design. A comprimise I made with my wife. I'm mostly interested in mid range drivers that can bring the acoustic guitar into my living room. I'm also looking for a recommendation on a tweeter and a xover suggestion. I've tried searching but there are so many to choose from and I'm trying to keep the price of two speakers below $500.

I have been reading about in-wall speakers that have gotten rave reviews such as Paradigm and Atlantic Tech. They're enclosed and they're way out of my price range...hence DIY. Any suggestions on the design would also be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
plmedeiros

Take a look at this:

http://techtalk.parts-express.com/sh...d.php?t=205269

He didn't countersink the cabinets into the wall, but the crossover he used is actually my in-wall design. Go to my RS180/27TDFC 2-way design page:

http://www.geocities.com/woove99/Spk...RS180_2way.htm

And look for the title of No BSC option for in-wall mounting under Section Options.

If you want to use better midwoofers, then look at my ER18RNX/27TDFC in-wall 2-way crossover design. It's also under No BSC crossover for in-wall mounting of the following web page:

http://www.geocities.com/woove99/Spk...18RNX_2Way.htm

The ER18RNX has a bit cleaner lower mids and midbass than the RS180.

Hi Jay,

Thanks for the info. Your site is quite extensive.....very nice.

I'm a bit worried about putting too large a driver in an "in-wall" design. My main goal is to provide exceptional midrange with these speakers...possiblly use 2 - 5" drivers separated by a soft dome tweeter.

Thanks!

Any intention of posting the 8945P / 810921 in-wall design? I still plan to build this btw! =) I'm making progress on my home theater, albeit slow. I am recently married and there have been lots of other things consuming my time recently. Coincidentally, I was just contemplating putting your 8945P / 810921 MTM design in-wall. I don't suppose you developed an in-wall crossover for the MTM design did you? Can't wait to get these things built =).

You got my in-wall MT design, didn't you? So you want to build MTM instead of MT?

I did initially for my inwall MTM's, but retired passive in favor of active

Yep, I definitely still have the in-wall MT design. That's what I plan on building for my HT. I was wondering if you planned on adding that crossover to your website at any point in time. As for the in-wall MTM I wouldn't say I want to build it, just that it had crossed my mind as an idea. I was curious if you had designed an in-wall MTM crossover so that I would know if it was even an option.

cheers,

James

Hi James,

In fact, I have many variations of the MT design for different BSC amounts and crossover topologies. These have been accumulated for me to satisfy some people who wanted to customize the design for their particular situations. I've been lazy to update the design page though some of these variations may be useful.

I don't have an in-wall MTM crossover for the Usher/Peerless. I'm not very interested in designing one
