Default Really quick (hopefully not stupid) question

Hey there, I just bought two loudspeakers (4" Tang Bands if anyone really wants to know). I would like to test them out, but don't have an enclosure to put them in, and was wondering if there was any problem with using them while they're just sitting on a bench?

Sorry if this seems like an unbelievably stupid question but I'm new to this stuff and and am also somewhat paranoid about stuff I've spent $$ on. Oh and I realize they may not sound so great, I'm more concerned about whether they could be damaged. Thanks

No, not if you're cautious with the volume setting, and by this I only mean throwing loads of bass into them. This would likely bottom out the drivers quickly and could result in some mechanical failure, but as long as you're sensible with what you do, there shouldn't be any issues.

If you're talking about making some measurements, then you should really mount the drivers in the enclosures they are going to be used in. Or if you're just wanting to check they all measure the same/that nothing is broken, you could mount them on an open baffle and take measurements from that.

Don't put too much power thru them, of course, but for testing ( or auditioning in my case ) I like to use a cardboard baffle to hear what they sound like.

I've never actually destroyed a speaker sitting on a bench
Edit 5th beat me too it

Sweet as, thanks for the replies guys. I'm not measuring them or anything so I guess I'll just go carefully on the volume.
