Default affordable 6ohm bass/mid driver

Hi, i hope i am posting in the right area, i had a look and couldn't find a similar thread, i am trying to create a pair of speakers for practically no budget, i have a pair of small cabinets that had awful drivers in but seemed ok so i went about the process of replacing parts, i put in a pair of peerless sr19dt's and that made a huge difference but now i need a pair of 5" bass/mid drivers that are 6 ohm and not going to cost the earth, any help would be greatly appreciated.

there are many 5"... can you put a numer on "practically no budget"... for some this would mean $5, for others $500

Why 6 ohm?

I'm assuming it is because your existing speakers are rated at 6 ohm, and I'm assuming that the reason you want 6 ohm is so you can continue to use the existing crossovers.

However, a 6 ohm rating for the overall speaker system, doesn't mean ALL the drivers are 6 ohms. It is conceivable that it uses an 8 ohm woofer and a 6ohm tweeter, which means because of the tweeter, the system as a whole would likely have an overall 6 ohm rating.

Using a more extreme example, if you have a speaker that has a 4 ohms woofer, 8 ohm midrange, and 16 ohm tweeter, the overall system rating would be 4 ohms, because as some frequency the impedance will drop down into that range.

Also, how about a description of the existing speaker system? Is it a two driver 2-way design, or a three driver (MTM) 2-way design? Or what???

We can probably point you at a 6 ohm driver, though not that easily as they are typically 4 ohms or 8 ohms. But that doesn't necessarily solve your problem.

Again, how about a more accurate description of the overall speaker system, and if possible brand and model?

Also, do you have any sense of what the existing crossover point is?

i did indeed think that both drivers should be rated 6 ohms, but if i can in fact use an 8 ohm mid/bass then that would make things simpler, unfortunately there is no manufacturer details on the cabinets so i have no info to give there but the dimensions are w19cm d19cm h30cm and they are rear ported, pretty small cabinets really, i use a musical fidelity b1 amp if that helps,

thanks for the links tinitus, that looks like a good place to start

i have been looking at some monacors but discounted them as they were 8 ohm.

8ohm is average
DC is around 6ohm

The two I linked to are best fore your box if closed, hard to find any better, those are fine drivers

The next level is Peerless and this 5" Nomex may be among the best fore midrange in bigger speakers, very high quality
Also it suits your box perfectly if basreflex, very nice
Good thing is that its still one of the cheapest among better drivers
