I have inherited a pair of AR4-X speakers. These were made sometime in the late sixties so I was told.
The cloth surround on the woofer is intact however the sealant is dried out. The tweeter pots are non functional and one of the tweeters is a little raspy sounding. I would like to restore them to as close to their original operation (and sound) as possible. They will be used with a fully restored Marantz 2270 receiver. I would welcome any suggestions on how to go about this restoration. |

The best help you can find is to register on the discussion area at
www.classicspeakerpages.net Download the AR3a restoration document. It has details on how to restore those pesky pots - same as you have in yours. Do searches in the AR area on AR4x and you will find a wealth of information. Also the library area has a little bit on the AR4x including a schematic of the crossover. That web site is the best compendium of information on AR speakers on the WWW. Good luck with your restoration. |
