After much nagging by the DIY community, the China Syndrome has arrived.
They're ready for public viewing. The crossover looks very similar to the Orient Express, but I had to cross lower, which means component values are larger, which means the total cost goes up a bit. Still, you should be able to get away for less than $110 using normal parts (Bennic capacitors and Eagle resistors). Sorry! You spend less on the driver, only to spend a bit more on crossover components. But these were definitely optimized to milk the most I could from these ultra-budget drivers and get a clear, articulate midrange. Should make some nice bedroom bookshelf or HT speakers. http://undefinition.googlepages.com/diy-chinasyndrome Sorry no BOM yet. I'll try to get one together soon. Any questions or comments, fire away! |

The BOM is up. Turns out I was actually a bit off in my guesstimate on the parts cost. These will be between $90-$100. (psst... Madisound has these surplus "Tyee" 10 uF polypropylene capacitors for 90 cents apiece. Great bargain. My only complaint is that the leads are a little fragile; but this won't be a problem once you glue/strap the caps in place and solder everything together)
