Sounds like either too much vibration from the speaker or resonance of the ceiling (in whatever mode). If chunks aren't falling, patch won't do much good (I get the impression of hairline cracks) but if so then you'll need a bit of patchin'...
If you feel like redoing the whole ceiling, you might try two layers of sheet rock, or maybe even a layer or two of plywood, make it like a speaker box wall.
