Default I need help with a good midrange

Well I have built some 7'+ DIY SDA's and I am crossing the MW's at 2300-2500hz active with a 24db slope. The tweeter is the Vifa ring radiator with the double magnet 93.5 db. My tweeters blew once already, and the mids are lacking. I am thinking of adding a mid or two to each cabinet to take the load of of the tweeters. I would use a passive XO to seperate the mids from the highs. I am trying to keep the cutout down to 2 7/8". Here is a link.

I hit 123db before my GFA-565's flicker the distortion lights. I am trying hard to get the hollow spot in the midrange fixed. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Ben

Default what are you using the speakers for

It look like you are trying to preform for a concert audience and at 123 DB is crazy for such a small room. The wave fronts at that level are already interferring with each other. I would suggest looking at silver flute 4 ohm version at madisound I choice them for there very flat responce but the have to be in their on enclosed and vented cabinets. ps after so long at that level it wont matter you wont be able to hear anything at the rate you are going

I don't play at that level long. Those are just peaks. When I remodel I am going to have a much larger room to play them in, and it will be good there, but for now I am trying to fill the mids that the single Vifa isn't very happy doing from around 2.5k to 3.5k. I might just be better off leaving it alone till I get them in a larger area. In a 24x24 room they were very nice, but in a smaller room there is just way too much cone area to work well
Thanks
Ben

If the 123db is at listening position then it will be a lot higher at 1in distance where most driver are measured. With such high SPL, you should consider pro driver. http://www.zaphaudio.com/ review some pro audio mid that worth a look. As for tweeter, the B&C 1in compression drive received a lot of good press in this forum. Search and you will find them.

Have fun!!

Default you will want a midrange speaker

You will want a speaker with a vary wide and flat response and the crossover point between bass and tweeter will need to be far apart as possible in order reduce the IM distortion and reduce the peaks at the crossovers from the frequency summing at those points you may wish to go with two midrange drives in paralell this will give you a 3db gain across the mid range using the wmt(t)m or the wmt(t)mw speaker design is ideal.
