I would like to try something like Carlsson Sonab OD-11 - http://www.carlssonplanet.com/od11.php or V1 - http://www.carlssonplanet.com/v1.php

My problem is that all cheap to get FR or car coax drivers I would like to try out first have a quite high Qts and I am afraid of boomy bass. How to overcome this? I was thinking about some resistive vent to make it more damped instead of a closed box. Or make large openings on the sides to make it quasi-open baffle. The boxes should stand on the floor. Could something like that work?

Equalization. Commercial analog or DSP based parametric, computer with sound card, edit the tracks you want to audition and write to a CDR, op-amp based gyrator and shelving filter or Linkwitz Transform circuits on a breadboard...
