Default Bass respone for 6.5" in OB

Maybe a stupid question but I have to ask, when will a 6.5 inch driver drop in bass response in OB. I have Seas magnesium in mind. THX

It depends on the width of your baffle, and your driver's Qts. My current test mule, with a ~ 23cm main baffle (with tapered wings forming a quasi U baffle), rolls off at around 200Hz. This is a function of the baffle and the fact that the Qts of the driver is .28.

hope this helps

Yes it did help me so bass response increases with a wider baffle?

I've tried multiple times with 6 and 5" drivers in OB. In short: They don't work. There is simply *no* bass and I'm talking eq-ed xo. Perhaps round 300-400hz rolloff.

On the other hand 10" is fine even with smallish (28cm) baffle. EQ-ed of course.

Right.

For OB you need to move a lot of air. The little drivers just don't. 1x12" or 2x10" is pretty much minimum for OB.

I've tried a single 8" fullranger in a baffle of 120cm x 90cm. After 15dB of boost, it's quite 'listenable', but in a very small space and very limited SPL. (the cone moves a lot when playing bass-heavy passages)

The question is - did the original poster intend to use a 6.5" driver as a "bass" driver or was he only wanting to know the useful lower range of that driver?

This one would work to about 100, but the baffle might have to be a bit bigger than is SAF-able. I'm going to try it in a folded piece of ply that I've already got lying around and see how it sounds. When they arrive, of course...

Your average f/r will need a high-pass, otherwise it may easily pole in an O/B. They work best in the bass area when loaded (ie. horn, b/r, sealed).

My intention was to use it with a subwoofer and it seems I would need one for each speaker
