Port Location

Hello,

I'm getting ready to build a pair of "monitors" for use with computer based DJ software for mixing using Dynaudio D/28 and Vifa MG18SK09 with a LEAP designed crossover from Madisound.

When asked port location I told them "front". I now think it would work better for me to port to the rear. And that's my question...

does it matter?

FYI: they will be placed on a large desk (3' x 7') that is against the wall.

If they are going against a wall, doesn't a front port make sense? Or is just the desk against the wall?

The desk is against the wall, but the speakers will be close.

I would say you want a front port on those speakers, guy.

Port in front would be the initial reply, but depending on the port geometry, wide and short being worst, "midrange leakage" can affect the response.
I would ask Madisound about this in their LEAP simulation. They may be able compensate for it (port) in the crossover design.
