Does furniture (ie couches, tables, etc) obstruct modal resonances (ie 20-150hz) or LF sound propagation. Suppose a subwoofer is placed beneath a couch or under a table, does the furniture attenuate its output or direct its energy to different areas of the room (ie excitement of different modes)?

I think not. The furnitures are too small for the room modes. Or I guess they should be in particular proportion to make influences -- like a very large bed in a very small room, or something like that.

I've experienced many times that the tables (large flat reflective surfaces) near the speakers cause irregulations in midrange, say, 500Hz or so.
