Default high efficiency 3way.

the idea of building a high efficiency 3 way keeps pooping in my head.
it would be good if it were around 96db or greater. i have a 6watt SEP amp i like.

i'd probably keep the crossover first order.
what software (freeware perhaps) can i use to model frequency response?

i was thinking about using a Fountek Neo 3cd, Audax PR170mo, and for the woofer, which is hard. i was thinking about an Eminence CH2010 basslite
http://www.parts-express.com/pe/psho...16&ctab=1#Tabs
any ideas with that one?

i'd consider a dome tweeter if i could find one efficient enough.
as far as response should the tweeter be a little lower than the mid?
so maybe have the mid around 96db and use a tweeter around 94db?

thanks and sorry if these are newb questions.

Wow, first order with the Fountek? Seems difficult to my eyes......
Also the audax looks "problematic" with first order imo.
But I love first order a la thiel to say, I prefer sacrifice a bit of efficency and go 6dB when possible :-)
The peerless hds dome is about 93-94 dB and it is 8 ohm if I well remember.

Cheers,
Paolo

i was thinking the low pass on the audax might be hard.

also, i remembered i have a GR research (gr-t6 i think it is) dome tweeter that is 6 ohm and 96db sensitive....

i figured the fountek would cross at about 4.5k or 5k. (madisound says 2nd order at 2500hz is good).
audax maybe 700hz to 2.5k
the ch2010 have a high pass around 250hz or 300 hz.

if i can't keep the design sensitive there is not much point in doing it.

also, i dont' have the equipment to take my own measurements so i need to model this stuff with software.

another question. how much sensitivity would i lose by going 2nd order on the mid and tweeter?

Maybe do you mean the H/P of the audax....it has very low Xmax.

You'll lose nothing exerpt transient perfection

Paolo

How about a two way with a fullrange driver like fostex fe126e and a 15" instead of the 10"?

Simpler to get right without measuring, and gets you more low freq extension.

i thought about a full range with a sub for a low end ext.

i have some 2 way now that use an eminence alpha 8" with a vifa tweeter in a bass reflex box. sensitivity is just enough.
i'd kinda like a little more midrange detail, a little more sensitivity and also a bit more low end extension...

how do the full range drivers sound? i'll have to do some searching as i haven't really looked into them much at all.

I'll point you to a couple threads people are doing for high efficiency 3ways right now.

This is a 3way using the TD12S and neo pro5i

using TD12S, phl mid and neopro5i

The Basslines by dlneubec. These were inspired by the salk system below. He did quite a bit of waveguide experimentation to get the dome tweeter efficiency up.

The salk system that inspired the one by dlneubec.
