Default Speaker building supplies in Melbourne

I was wondering if people could help with sources for the following in Melbourne (Australia if that wasn't clear):

- Acoustic Felt
- Bituminous lining/damping
- Acoustic Foam (Clark rubber has some, but looking for other sources/better foam).

Any other sources that people have found?

Thanks

M

I checked out Jaycar Bitument mat, and it does not look too good. Very thin.

I also checked Lead sheet at Bunnings, about $30 per sheet. How good do you think this will help to damp panel resonance? Seems like many high end manufacturers are using them.

Try this or this from Jaycar. Very good for deadening car doors and also works well on wood/MDF/ply. Weighs 4kg+ per square metre...

Get a copy of the RACV monthly mag' and check out the suppliers of auto sounddeadening stuff. The unit cost my be more attractive. For that matter the Yellow Pages might be quicker.

Not exactly sure what you're using this stuff for but controlling resonance in boxes is a good area for DIYers to get value for money. If so it would be useful to go to the B&W website and look at their article on cabinet resonances. It was research generated when they did the Matrix series. It is 20yrs old by now but is v.v. good in preventing mistakes in this area. The analysis of reverberation time is the key and they have interesting results that are a bit counter intuitive and stop us making the problems worse! Regards to Melbourne and the Essendon FC.

I'm looking to get materials for 3 purposes

1. To control cabinet resonance, reflection and retransmission (the bituminous/rubber type of thing)
2. To provide damping to the interior of the cabinet (pillow fill, acoustic foam, acoustic felt, glass wool etc)
3. To reduce diffraction from the cabinet front which will probably be 6mm acoustic foam stuck to the front.

Thanks for everyone's suggestions.

Looks like Autobarn (certainly the one in Preston) have sound dampening sheet @$40 for around 0.54 m2 which seems to be ok.

Oh, and Audiophile on St George's Rd in Fitzroy North have a range of Fostex (full range) drivers at quite good prices.

I'll report back on anything else I find...
