or Why so many speakers? Are multi-amp? Is better than a 3-way? Greetings

Hi,
They are called line arrays. Dr Jim Griffin wrote a paper on them. Unfortunately it's too big to attach so you'll have to google it for a better explanation |

Yeah the line Array........Very impressive to show off, somewhat easy to build. Notice the curvature of the 'Top' one, as if to focus the beaming effects of the drivers onto one point. As if in a parabola. No no, not the porabola
The imaging is quite good...sometimes the array will be supplimented with a subwoofer as the "fullrangers will not have any bottom end. Look up some of the old Infinity Arrays. Bobby Shred stuff. ____________________________________Rick.......... . |

Line array just tells you there's a bunch of drivers in a line. It says nothing about the drivers, the number of them, the possible XO or power tapering or, or... It just means what it says. When you read the paper you will better understand the "whys" behind them. Some persons swear by them and others not so much. To each his own.

Try www.partsexpress.com and look up the "project" speakers, find the line array with Thirty-two drivers per side!

Hi,
The fundamental problem is the transition from line dispersion to the hemispherical tweeter output. They may look like line arrays but not (due to filtering) operate as line arrays, all in the details. If they are not line arrays they are not as cost effective as 3-ways. If they are line arrays then there are myriad issues. |

The Gryphon poseidon is not a line array, its a 4 way D áppolito with active bass. Read the design story at www.gryphon-audio.com
