MS 30I Classic

Hummm...
Strange this set actualy sounds very good and searching the net you will find very good reviews from it.
I have to many speakers (MS 30I Classic, Mission 737, Jordan Watts, Technics SB440, Jamo Laser and.....) and I'm looking for info on the MS 30I classic namely power rating, efficiency etc.
Any Info ?

Ric

Well MS40i is a different speaker with two 7" woofers instead of one 8" in MS 30i and it doesn't have to bear family resemblance. The guy who bought my 40i was perfectly happy.
The perception of a speaker is somewhat system/ room dependent .Also taste evolves etc. If you already have the speaker and like it a lot -what else do you need to know ?? They are probably 8 Ohms, 40-80W
with 89-90 dB efficiency and 40Hz-20k Bandwidth.

Hi,

One issue is :

Are they the original MS model or the re hashed version
sold by Richer Sounds after they took over Mordaunt Short.

I think :

The original also has a moulded back panel, the two are
joined by bolts hidden under the rubber inserts for the grill.
The box is subtantial and damped.

The rehash has a less subtantial cabinet with a normal back.
The bolts are replaced by large wood screws, into a subbaffle.
The box can be usefully improved by adding wall damping.

Common :

Bass driver has no crossover, very simple on the tweeter.
(one capacitor, two paralleled, (and a resistor ?))
Originally designed by Robin Marshall, Epos ES14 principles.

Usually work best near wall. Around 87/88dB.
Around 100W programme handing.

Should be lively and communicative, but not the most neutral.

Thanks for all the answers.
The MS 30i classic model is bigger than the original 30i (22 to 25L volume).
The cabinet on the Classic model is Rosewood or something similar and there is a complete crossover network inside.
Since I'm building a F4 amplifier I was wondering if the eficiency of the 30i Classic suits the amp.

Hi,

If the cabinet is Rosewood, not vinyl, it is the MS original.

I do not know what you mean by a "complete" crossover, if this
is true and it is not minimalistic as featured in many MS designs,
then this would imply lower sensitivity but a richer sound balance,
compared to the minimalist (with no baffle step compensation).

Driving the F4 seems more difficult than the F4 driving the speakers.
