I know there is alot of info on this topic, and have read most of the threads concerning High gloss finishes. However, I have begun the finishing of my speaker project, and am having problems with the paint sticking/running. I am using spray cans. The first coat went on beautifully with no real issue nice even coverage and a smooth finish. a couple of runs, but sanded down. I sanded with 220 before applying second coat. When I started to apply the second coat it beads up almost like the cabinets were waxed. Very un even coverage. infact there is not a smooth spot on the cabinet. if I slowed my speed down or moved any closer it would just run like water?! Has anyone had this problem before, and what was the remedy? Thanks.

After final sanding the surface was contaminated. You could cleanup with clean cotton rags and mineral spirits/ and or alcohol.
Re: Running paint...It takes practice applying paint by spraying.

The cotton cloth may have had some type of oil, soap, or some other containment on it.
When you say damp, you mean water? How long did you wait before applying after rubbing down with the damp cloth? |

Hopefully these help. Don't know how well you will be able to see the detail.

Has anyone sprayed WD-40 or Liquid Wrench around your work area?
