Currently I have Onkyo xsr805 reciever, Jamo C603 bookshelf fronts, Jamo S60 center and Dahlquist QX-25RA rears.
Did some searching on this here and avs and came up with little info. The only answer I found I'll touch on later.
I'm looking to upgrade the speakers in the system and definatly want to go the diy route. I have extensive carpentry and electronics experience, but limited design and modeling experience. I would like to go the route of building someone else's design for a first. Maybe later I'd like to try designing myself.
I am finding the choices at zaph's site good for fronts and center options, but for surrounds I'm having some struggles. I know zaph doesn't believe in surround speakers, so I'm not expecting info from him on this.
The question is, most of these design's are meant to be placed out from the walls. I would build one of his designs for the surrounds, but I am looking for a design (in crossover and enclosure) that accomodates being mounted to the wall.
Looking to complete a 7.1 system. These will only be used for movies, as I only use stereo for music.
I was thinking about building his Slimline wall mounted design, but will this outperform my dahlquist rears. I'm all for building them and comparing, but the frugal part in me would prefer to get some opinions before I start.
I don't have a set budget per sey, but I plan to evaluate my cost vs performace as I go. I plan on going with some pro rack amps, crown or QSC maybe, later (part of the reason I got the xsr805, it has all the preouts on the back). Also I will be building the ZDT3.5, so would like something that would be a nice sounding match.

They are intended for music but I know that Visaton also have a brochure on their site showing them used as surrounds in a 5.1 system.
There is also this design from IPL acoustics, while not completely DIY as you have to buy a kit, still might provide some inspiration.

I'm in the process of finishing a pair of the Visaton Portriats for my stereo system as I needed something that would hang on the wall since regular speakers were a no-go in the living room due to little people and WAF. They didn't sound at all bad, considering they use budget drivers and were my first speaker build, when I gave them a quick test.

A decent 4" is always going to do better than 3".
And a 5" design called the ZMV5 will shortly appear.

/sreten.thanks for the replies. Those portrait speakers look very interesting, but not really what I'm looking for. Maybe a later project for a different room.
I had looked at the zbm4's a while ago and forgot about them. Maybe I'll have to build a set and do some comparisons. The price is definatly well below what my budget demands are. How long till he releases a design for the zmv5's? are we talking a few weeks or a few months?

I'm also using the Vifa DQ25SC tweeter for my new 2-way design, but with a higher quality midwoofer than in Zaph's new design:
