Bob Stout passes

I do not know how many DIY audio people from the old bass listserv are here, but DIY audio lost a great friend.

Bob Stout passed away recently. No details, just that he died.

For people not familiar with the contributions Bob made over the last decade or two, including running the forum for years and being the resident expert on capacitors, check this out-

http://ldsg.snippets.org/#LDSG

If you look around you will find that “snippets” was also a great computer programming resource. All for free-

A fond farewell to an old friend.
My deepest sympathy to his family.

NOTE: Anyone over at Danley Sound Labs please let Tom know.

Curtis,

That is a surprise and very sad news.

Bob's LDSG was a wealth of information when I first became interested in designing and building speakers. I spent many hours studying and comparing drivers listed in this comprehensive site. I can only imagine the effort he put into accumulating and maintaining all of this data.

Bob also ran the BassList for quite a few years with just the right amount of moderation and only when necessary. Unfortunately these e-mail lists have dropped off the radar in favor of forums. Progress, I guess.

Sad news,

Sad news indeed.

Bob was one of the first people on the Basslist with whom I had fruitful off-list communications, some 10 years ago...

Bob was a stalwart & tireless worker in helping to put our hobby on the solid footing it is today.

He will sadly be missed.

Same here. Bob was a great caretaker of The List. In a way he
was the Bass List.

Same here too. Sadly, I never knew about him. But I've always known about that site, since I first discovered it years ago. It must have been one of the very first valuable resources of information I ever came across on the internet. Like others, I also remember spending a lot of time studying and comparing many of the drivers listed.

Anyway, my condolences to his family and those closest to him. I wish I would have known more about him.

Hi Curtis
Thanks for the news even if its sad.
When you look through his web sites and think about it, you can see he was someone who made a difference to a lot of Diy'rs, in a good way.
Remember the bass list in the old days Curtis and the bass BBQ's?.
Sorry to see him go.
Hope your doing well.
Best,
Tom

A sad loss. I was aware of Bob through the LDSG which I think every DIY'er has visited at some point.

Always sad to see someone pass away but particularly someone influential to the hobby. He was that type of guy that would have been doing/talking/thinking DIY right up until the end.

Farewell from a fellow enthusiast and warm thanks.
