Default 2WAY XO for a newbie, where can I find info?

Hello,

I have a center channel speaker I would like to replace the XO in.

The speaker uses to shielded W17RC38-04 woofers in series, with combination with the MDT30 tweeter.

The speaker is very nice (and was actually not cheap at all), but there is one thing which really bothers me a lot. In every sound track the sound is very sharp when ever one of the voices says the a word with "s" in it. I guess its because the tweeter cut-off freq is too low.

I want to change the XO so that the mid-range will be a bit more dominant (very little, about 1-2db at most), and to make that sharp "s" go away. I've heard that tweeter on other speakers and it performs just fine there. Since my knowledge in XO designing is very poor (non), I've decided to look for help.

I've searched the net and found a few sites with calculator for parts values, but they are all very limited and do not take into account the unique characteristics of each speaker.

Thank You.

Are these commercial speakers? Or did you build or have someone build them from an existing do-it-yourself design? Can you give us a link to the design? Do you know where the existing design crosses over?

I think this Silver Flute 6.5" 4 ohm woofer is relatively popular and there are likely designs very similar to your in existance, I would recommend you copy one of those existing and proven designs.

What you are hearing is called 'sibilance'; the hissing of 'S's.

I'm more inclined to think what you are hearing is a problem with the tweeter than a problem with the crossover. I leave the details to those with more expertise than I have, but I'm wondering is simply padding down the tweeter might be the solution. Or perhaps, there is a small peak in the overall response curve that needs to be tamed.

The tweeter, for the record, appears to be a Morel Dome -

Fortunately, the woofer/midbass seems to have decent response up to about 5khz. Unfortunately, 2khz seems to be the workable low end for the tweeter.

I know that's not much help, but it is a start.
