Default Speakerlab Drivers & Nestorovic Xover Schematic Needed

Looking for some Speakerlab drivers. Can anyone out there help me out? I'll take them in any condition as long as they are repairable.

W1038B 10" Woofer

W1208RS 12" Woofer

Also, anyone happen to have a copy of the Nestorovic Crossover for the Speakerlab Model S 50 (4 Way Design)?

Let me know.

Thanks!

Ed

I have. Speakerlab is not the same company it once was. They are living on the name but not very resourceful anymore ... especially with older product. These drivers where made by Spekalerb themselves and are long discontinued. There is really no suitable replacement as they where very specific to this crossover design.

Found a few T/S parameters for these Speakerlab drivers.

Recone seems about $75 per woofer.

If you want the best sound, today's new speaker tech is far superior to the S50, but as a collector I have three pairs of 1984 Apogee Full Range...easy to understand your search.

Thanks for the information.

I have a feeling I may just have a 4 way schematic designed or something picking out all new drivers from the 12" to the tweeter. These speakers where very rare. I know of only 2 pair from users of this site. There was a pair at SLab that was promised to me, but they screwed me on it and sold them to someone else.

Anyone else out there ... your information is appreciated!

Thanks,

Ed

I need specs on woofers for the following system from speakerlab.

Model DAS 8

12" Woofer: W1228P
10" Woofer: W1028P

I need to have them reconed but for the money it would cost to ship, recone, and reship ($400) I am thinking about replacing them with something new. Called Speakerlab ... no help as usual. Anyone out there have a catlog from the 90's when these units where made? Only a handful of actual DAS 8's where produced, so may not be much information on that unit. I bought my pair used a few years back but the foam surrounds have since rotted. So, perhaps a SLab catalog with the drivers listed? If anyone can help, it would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Ed

Those look like Eminence numbers from what I can remember. Do they have 28 oz magnets, given the number ending in 28?
Are they poly cone, since they end in P?

Were Speaker Lab and Audio Concepts connected in any way do you remember?

I believe that the Eclipse line from Madisound and Meniscus were derivatives of the Audio Concepts drivers, made by Eminence:
http://www.madisound.com/catalog/pro...roducts_id=417

Meniscus now calls them Magi:

http://meniscusaudio.com//magi-w1238r-p-568.html

You're not far from me in Norwalk, BTW.

The similarity of the above numbers might just be a coincidence. Meniscus does recones, and might give you a better price.

Thanks for the reply Pete.

I was actually looking at thoe Meniscus drivers myself. They have 42 oz magnets. My 10's and 12's have 36 oz magnets. I have not checked the specs yet against the Meniscus drivers but I do know the Fs for the 10's are 21 and the 12's are 28. I think the Meniscus drivers are both 20.

Since this speaker is a ported system, I am not sure how greatly it would be effected by changing out drivers.

I do know these Speakerlab drivers where made for them by a company in China and a guy I know who ise to work there and does reconing and rebuilding has seen those drivers almost always coming in with speca way off and never close to what Speakerlab spec'd out ... i.e. Fs of 40 and even 50!

Yes, they are poly cones and are pretty crappy. They easily deform/warp unlike other rugid poly cones and paper cones you would expect in a high powered bass driver.

I am not sure if they where ever connected to that company.

Yes, in Norwalk. Where are you located?

Thanks,

Ed

Never heard that about the poly cones used in Speaker Lab drivers. Always heard good things about the Audio Concepts drivers but never tried them myself. I now, seem to remember hearing that the Eclipse drivers were tailored after those from Audio Concepts but are now made by Eminence. The Eclipse line has been very highly regarded as far as low cost stamped frame drivers go.

I've used the 8" Eclipse woofer and it is impressive, they really got the large signal behavior optimized.

I'm just past Fairfield, grew up here in CT.
