Default Guess a woofer

Got a new set of woofers. I'll say that I was surprised of the seemingly high quality of these units.

Here's a pop-quiz: Who made these units and how old are they? I know, but guess for yourself. Wait a day or two before you post an answer. Let the other kids play too :-)

Hi.

Yep SEAS it is.

Now. The age?

BHTX: Why did that sentence threw you off? Was it not correct English? - I'm trying to improve :-)

Mid to late 80's? Just a guess. Might even be early 80's I suppose, but I'm guessing mid 80's more than anything. As for exact years, I have no clue. If I had to pick, I'd say 1985 or some time shortly after. No idea though.

..When did anyone ever expect low quality drive units from Seas?
At first, I thought Seas right off the bat as soon as I saw the pics. But then I thought, "But if he was surprised at the quality, maybe it can't be that easy?" Then Sreten posted his response, so I went ahead and agreed.

BTW, your English is 100% perfect so far. I never would have known.

Hi

My surprise was not because of the SEAS-brand (being Scandinavian I'm proud of the old nordic speaker-brands).

The speaker was dated 77´ and therefore the units must be more than 31 years old. -they are older than me!

I found some more info here on a site belonging to a famous Dane: http://www.troelsgravesen.dk/33FWK.htm

More info here:Seas Webpage

To my understanding the TS-data is not very suited to small boxes. That's bad news for me as WAF is important and 100Liter boxes are not an option.

Regards TroelsM

Hi,

In that case you have got the wrong (high efficiency) driver.
It does what it does very well in big boxes with decent bass.
As ever for decent bass in compact boxes efficiency has to give.

Hi.

Yes, kinda guessed that this driver would never be any good in my current home.

It was so cheap that I bought it anyways. So either I wait for more space or sell the old woofs.

I'm very aware that efficiency will be way down if that woofer was put in a small box. The cure is more amp-power, but with a 40mm VC and a 60/120W rating this driver isn't made for that.

Beautiful old things none the less.

Regards TroelsM
