Hi all,
First post.. hopefully you guys can help me out. I currently own the Spendor S9e http://www.audiocamp.net/freedata/sookie/work/S9e-1.jpg The mid and woofer are Spendors own custom drivers, but the tweeter is made by Scanspeak. I was wondering if it's worth (and easy) to change it to a higher end scanspeak tweeter of the same specification? I've never done anything like this before.. so might not be worth the risk.. but would be interested to hear your advice. Current speaker specs are as follows.. Description 3 way floor standing loudspeaker Enclosure type Spendor 3D linear flow reflex Drive units HF 27mm coated fabric dome, damped vented enclosure Drive units LF/MF 140mm ep38 polymer cone Drive units LF 220mm Kevlar® composite cone Frequency response 40Hz-20kHz ± 3dB on reference axis Frequency range -6dB at 28Hz Dispersion Within 3dB of response on reference axis Horizontal over 40° arc ( ±20°) Vertical over 20° arc ( ±10°) Sensitivity for 1W @ 1m 90dB Impedance nominal 8 ohms Impedance minimum 6.0 ohms Crossover frequencies 350Hz and 4.8kHz Power handling 30 - 350 watts into 8 ohms unclipped Harmonic distortion <1% 100Hz – 20kHz 90 dB @ 1m Connections 2/3 way gold plated bi-wirable terminals Magnetic shielding All drive units shielded Dimensions H x W x D 1005 x 242 x 380mm (39.6 x 9.5 x 15.0in) Plinth maximum W x D 332 x 400mm (13.1 x 15.7in) Spikes/feet/stand height 37 ± 3mm Net weight 36.5kg (80.5lb) Shipping weight 39.9kg (88.0lb) Accessories supplied Spikes and lock nuts Cabinet real wood veneer finishes Cherry, Maple, Rosenut, Black Ash ----------- Thanks all! |

Hi,
I understand the tweeter used in that model range is a Seas. Probably very near to the well regarded Seas 27TDFC. Changing it is not a good idea ...... unless you redo the c/o. |

I read a review that claimed it was a SEAS unit.
http://www.audiofix.com.au/reviews/S9e_HFN_Apr_06.pdf The dome looks like a 27TFFC, but the motor looks like the T25CF001. There not much point changing it if you are keeping the old crossover. This SEAS unit is a good tweeter. Spendor are one of the companies that tend to do use decent drive units and design crossovers properly too. Anything that you're not happy with in particular? |

Hi,
Some of the older Spendor models, e.g. SP2, used Scanspeak tweeters. The current models use a Seas, probably built to specification. Its never a good idea changing drivers in any good speaker. |
