What do i need to measure speakers.

Hello,

To date, i have built all my projects by using xovers designed by someone else.

I'm looking to start learning the intricacies of building xovers and learning more.

I know that many of you use microphones in conjunction with your computers to get accurate readings on your speakers in the enclosures you built in order to get the xover's correct, i know the ear is the final judge however, i think seeing the measurements would be fun.

I would much appreciate any assistance in what i require to measure, what the approx cost would be...

You need to be able to measure simulated free field responses at various angles. There are lots of inexpensive ways to do this.

The measurements are more than simply fun, they are essential. The ear as the final judge will be forever wandering about in search of nirvana. With measurements you can prevent this wandering by establishing benchmarks from which to move the design forward.

Get a Beringer mic and preamp, almost any sound card, and something like ARTA. - Total cost is a few hundred dollars.
