Default Heybrook HB2 repair/mod.

Hi all,

I have a pair of twenty something year old Heybrook HB2 speakers. The mid/bass driver in each is blown so I was looking at buying new drivers for them myself as parts for speakers of this age are rare and expensive. What do I need to take into consideration when buying new drivers? Or do you think it would be easier to just strip out everything inside the box and get a completely new set of internals?

Thanks for the help!

The crossover on my Heybrook's was wired incorrectly -- so before repairing and ordering some new drivers you might want to pull out the XO, trace it out to make sure it's correct.

You can work backwards from the internal dimensions and port to come up with an optimal driver -- I also blew the drivers and replaced with some RS (not the best choice, but close enough for government work.)

Hi

if you want to fix them, please do it correctly and get orginal drivers for replacement
They are VIFA M21 WG. You can get these at puresound http://www.puresound.info/
and maybe from Winslow Audio - both in the UK.

best
LC

edit: I forgot, if only the surrounds are blown, you can try to fix that yourselfs for pretty cheap.

@ jackinnj: I'm working on the assumption that the crossovers are fine due to the fact that they worked before I blew the drivers! There are no obvious signs of damage on them.

@ Lovechild: How can I tell if it's just the surrounds that are blow.

You may be able to tell that I'm new to this!

When you say blown, what do you mean?

Not working, I'm not sure what the actual problem is though. The tweeter on each speaker works fine though.

When you bypass the XO and run the speakers wires directly to the drivers in question, you get no sound at all? Make sure it is an open or short circuit with your multimeter.
