Default B&w 603

Hi everybody,

I'm new to this hobby and I would like to modify the crossover in my B&W 603. I changed all the wiring inside the speaker with Kimber 8TC and like to know if someone out there has any suggestion on how I can modify the crossover. Usually I see people changing the capacitor on the crossover, but I can't tell which one it is.

Thanks,

Kevin

why would you want to modify it? I bet you didn't hear any difference after changing internal wiring. same with replaced caps, you most likely will not hear any difference.

agreed.
If you start messing with a nice pair of speakers like those, you're more likely to mess things up.

Different caps will have different series resistance which will affect the crossover performance strongly. Do you really think you can do a better job than the experts at B&W?

I'd focus on getting your speaker placement and room acoustics optimized. Tame the ringing/resonance of the room, maximize the delay before the first reflections etc. This is a much better bang for your buck!

in thailand i had ever seen that they change condenser in thiel floorstanding but he used it a long time. they replace condencer scr brand(bannic brand was the old condencer) the crossover has the coil and C very much(114 lol) i think that the C when they change more than 60 piece. they told me that it's bright more than old but i didnot listen it(not a chance) now i think u use it 4-5 years before to change

I will agree that speaker placement/room treatments are a good first option. But I disagree that the crossover cannot be improved. B&W just like any vendor will cut corners. For example I own DM603's and also a set of DIY Cryolite (Neo3PDR + RS180) and even my wife thinks the Cryolite's sound better. And the crossovers in those were only ~130$ for the pair.

That being said, plan on some _serious_ time investment to improve on the crossovers. And I would not even think of doing it without some measuring equipment.

Hrm... I just saw the crossover picture. Not enough components I would think for a 3 way design. Is there more then one board in the cabinet?

Oh... and it is funny that they have one of the coils pointing _right_at_ another coil. That is a no-no, especially with the coils so close.
