Default open box speaker

hey guys.

a few weeks back i hooked up an old car radio to a single speaker and tweeter, and hooked that up to my clock radio (just the clock part) and put it all in one box. So now i have a great sounding clock radio, which also doubles as a bedside table

being far too lazy for my own good - i put all this in an old speaker box which had no back to it - and just ran it like that. the first morning it started up it sounded really really good! (i think its a combination of the radio having a loudness button and the fact that my bed is in the cornar of the room)

now i want to close the back up to hide the wires and circuitry, but i don't want to loose the shweet sound that i am getting now.

SO THIS IS MY QUESTION:

can i close up the top half of the box (where the wires etc are) and leave the bottom part (where the speaker is) open???

will this change the sound drastically, or won't i even notice the difference??
